YES WB supports Youth Employability Skills (YES) development initiatives, policies and innovation. The network is helping CSOs, public and private partners to develop better approaches and methods for boosting YES accross the Western Balkans region.

Why is that important?

Europe’s strategy for 2020 is a route for smart, sustainable and inclusive economic growth through knowledge and innovation, which sets an employment rate target of 75%. The success of this strategy depends on the skills of Europe’s youth. Enterprises need people with the skills required to compete and provide high-quality goods and services.

Young people need the right qualifications to find jobs. People with low levels of or no qualification are nearly three times more likely to be unemployed than those with high qualifications. In the EU, around 75 million people, nearly a third of the working population, have low levels of or no qualification. Too many young people, around 15%, leave school without any qualifications.

Communication

Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.

Teamwork

Actively participating as a member of a team to move the team toward the completion of goals. Teamwork is all about being able to operate smoothly and efficiently within a group.

Foreign Languages

It is based on the ability to understand, express and interpret concepts, thoughts, feelings, facts and opinions in both oral and written form in an appropriate range of societal and cultural contexts.

Desire for Learning and Growth

Actively identifying new areas for learning; regularly creating and taking advantage of learning opportunities; using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job and learning through their application.

Adaptability and Flexibility

Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks or the work environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.

Problem Solving

Problem-solving skills include recognizing long-term consequences of solutions to problems and probing, devising, implementing, and evaluating a plan of action for problem resolution.

IT, Computers and Web

Digital competence involves the confident and critical use of Information Society Technology (IST) for work, leisure and communication.

Work Ethics

The work ethic is a cultural norm that advocates being personally accountable and responsible for the work that one does and is based on a belief that work has intrinsic value.

Under Pressure

Maintaining stable performance under pressure or opposition (such as time pressure or job ambiguity); handling stress in a manner that is acceptable to others and to the organization.

Planning and Organising

Establishing courses of action for self and others and effectively managing one’s time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently.

Entrepreneurship

An entrepreneurial attitude is characterized by initiative, pro-activity, independence, motivation and determination to meet objectives.
